EFLU: Students hold late-night protests, hours ahead of reopening

Hyderabad: Students at EFLU Hyderabad reignited their protests on Sunday night, as the university is to reopen on Monday after the Dasara vacation. The institution had been rocked by a series of demonstrations, sparked by allegations of sexual harassment case and the alleged inaction of the university's management.

In a show of solidarity with the ongoing protests, students organised a night of poetry and songs of resistance at the Old Sagar Square on the campus. They demanded the resignation of Vice Chancellor Prof E. Suresh Kumar. They adorned the campus with posters, 'The campus is not calm,' a direct response to the Vice Chancellor's previous assertion that it was peaceful. Other posters bore messages such as 'VC saab kidhar hai?' (Where is VC sir?), 'Dissent is our right,' 'Stop victim shaming,' 'Make the campus safe again,' and 'You can't silence us,' among others.

To shield themselves from potential targeting by the administration or the police, several students donned masks featuring the likenesses of social activists like Periyar, BR Ambedkar, Bhagat Singh, and more. Students alleged that the presence of police personnel on campus, ostensibly due to the election code of conduct, was a thinly veiled attempt to stifle their protests.
