AEOs hold dharna; seek parity in promotions
Hyderabad,
Agriculture extension officers (AEOs), who join the agriculture department after completing BSc (Ag), held a dharna in front of the agriculture commissionerate office to protest at being left behind in promotions. They said their counterparts hold a diploma get primacy in promotion into agriculture officers.
Bandela Suman, treasurer of the AEOs union, said, “The system funds diploma holders to study the BSc (Ag) course at public cost. We have no objection to that. We are only seeking parity in promotions to officers from both the stream.”
He said that even in recruitment those from diploma and BSc (Ag) are hired on equal ratio. Every year around 22 of the diploma holders who are allowed to study BSc (Ag) are bagging promotions. This is making us junior to them, affecting our seniority.”
The in-service facility was introduced in 1975 when there was a shortage of BSC(Ag) officers. He said there were 720 AEOs who had joined the department after completing the degree course.
