TGPSC Group 1 Preliminary Exam Conducted Smoothly, Over 4 Lakh Candidates Appeared

Hyderabad: The Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) conducted its Group 1 preliminary exam flawlessly on Saturday, except a couple of logistical challenges impacting a few candidates.

About 4.03 lakh candidates had reistered for the exam which was held in 897 centres across 31 districts from from 10.30 am to 1 pm.

Rehana Begum, a mother of two, missed the exam by two minutes after grace time, due to parking difficulties at the Jagruti College centre in Koti. She expressed her frustration, stating, "Even last time when I wrote the Group IV exam at the Musheerabad centre, the candidates were given the question paper 45 minutes late. I lost the job by 19 marks, and now this issue on Sunday morning."

An identification officer, Parvesh K., turned up drunk at the Karimnagar's Thimmapur exam centre. In a video now going viral, he can be seen saying that his duty is from 9-10 am and that he had liquor at 10 am after having finished his work. He has been taken into custody and is being questioned.

The TSPSC Group 1 exam, which included 150 objective-type questions, aimed to assess various competencies including logical reasoning, general science, and the cultural heritage of India and Telangana. An analysis of the question distribution showed that logical reasoning had the highest number of questions (25), followed by general science (19) and world geography (14).

Dr Gopalkrishna B., a competitive exam coach, commented, "The question paper has been set, not with a view to just screen candidates but to test the ‘governmental sense’ of the aspirant. Papers of this kind would meet the stated objective of selecting candidates with an aptitude for government services."

The TGRTC ran special buses to the headquarters towns from different places in the districts for the convenience of candidates. Arrangements were made at the examination centres for candidates who had physical challenges; they were allocated rooms on the ground floor.
