Allu Arjun-Atlee film sparks plagiarism row

Looks like the internet is having a field day, claiming one of the film’s posters might have taken a little inspiration from ‘Dune’

No sooner did Allu Arjun and filmmaker Atlee announce their latest collaboration on April 8 than it already finds itself in the midst of controversyNo sooner did Allu Arjun and filmmaker Atlee announce their latest collaboration on April 8 than it already finds itself in the midst of controversy. Just hours after the big reveal, Sun Pictures proudly declared that their announcement video has already racked up over 6 million views on YouTube. However, netizens were quick to point out the poster was a copy of the sci-fi thriller Dune.

The mega project tentatively titled AA 22, said to be one of a kind, has also roped in several Hollywood VFX studios for the same. However, the teaser poster bore several similarities with the 2021 Hollywood hit.

Several users on X pointed out the similarities and called out Atlee for copying. One wrote, “Seriously, Dune! Atlee?” While another wrote, “They really think audiences don’t know?”

While one even chastised filmmakers for taking shortcuts. Atlee is no stranger to plagiarism rows. In the past too, he has been accused of borrowing heavily as well as copying from Hollywood and South Korean films. In his defence, the filmmaker had previously answered, saying in a creative field one is bound to have similar ideas. “Do you think only I face such criticism in the world of cinema? Many great filmmakers and creative minds have faced it,” he said. However, neither Sun Pictures nor Atlee have addressed the latest issue.
