Excerpt from the Interview
How did you come on board as the composer for 'Inn Galiyon Mein'?
The director of the Movie, Avinash Das, approached me for the Music of the movie. I got very fascinated by the project. I have also seen his previous projects which were really amazing. The lyricist, Puranvaasu, who is also a screenwriter of the movie wrote it very well. These things really compelled me to work with him.
It was a different experience for me. The story is very simple and so is the music.
Since you make music for movies and also do independent projects, how do you balance the both? And what is the difference between the two?
I don't plan anything as such, I just go with the flow.
Almost 10 years back, I started my career in Music in Bollywood as that was the option if anyone wanted to pursue their career in the Music. There was no Music industry; instead it was part of the movie industry. Today, there are various artists who are creating a different space for movies, where musicians or singers don't have to depend on movies.
I also made some indie pop songs from 2020 and they went really well. Before this I used to make songs only for movies.
And yes, there is a difference between the two, as independent music artists don't have to rely on movies, They make music as per their pace and comfort, and experiment with Music. And for movies, the music mostly revolves around the movie.
Since, you have been working for almost a decade. Do you feel your music style has evolved over the years? If so, in what ways?
My music has definitely evolved over the years. Infact I try to update myself every other day, and keep up with the things around me. I learn from kids to senior most musicians and singers of our industry who have still not stopped learning, such as vishal shekhar AR Rahman.
The song 'Patang Ki Dor' song from the movie has already been released. How was your experience working with lyricist Punarvasu?
Patang Ki Dor is a very simple and soulful track, written by punarvasu, and sung by Armaan Malik and Palak Muchchal.
My experience with punarvasu was amazing. He is the screenwriter of the movie, and wrote it very well. It was his debut as a lyricist. Usually in writers there is always a hidden lyricist because they know how the story will evolve and purvansu has put it beautifully on the paper.
Apart from that, he is a very musical person, and plays guitar as well. He has written very well the story of this movie which is inspired by his father.
Other songs in the movie?
Apart from Patang Ki Dor, there is another song in the movie called, "Ja janam ja" which is sung by Sonu Nigam. Last time, 'Mere Dholna Became a little too serious a song. However, we have kept this one a simple fun qawwali song.
What’s next for you—any upcoming projects or exciting collaborations?
I have a few movie projects coming up, and a few singles. And there is a collaboration with a big star, which is going to be a blockbuster but I can't name that yet.
