Andhra born distributor to head Telugu chamber
With the Telugu Desam Party forming government in Andhra Pradesh, the equations are changing in Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce too. With Telangana producer Dil Raju set to step down as president in June end, industry bigwigs are planning to elect an Andhra-born distributor to lead Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce. “With N Chandrababu Naidu becoming the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, chamber members want a person hailing from Andhra to lead the body to have better leverage with the government,’ says a source.
Initially, a Telangana distributor was vying for the coveted post, but now things have changed and distributors from Andhra Pradesh will have to take over the reins from Dil Raju. “After producers sector, this time, it is the turn of the distributor to become the president,’ he adds.
It is learnt that top distributors like Bharat Bushan, Satyanarayana and Tagore Madhu are in the race for the top post and they would be elected by the 44-member executive committee members. “It is likely to be a tough contest between two distributors as one could withdraw from the race,” he points out.
The distributor has to be one of the 12 executive members in the distributors sector and has to win 25 votes out of 48 to be declared a winner. “Executive members of producers, exhibitor, distributor and studio sectors along with 4 votes of chairmans of four sectors would exercise their franchise if elections are inevitable,” he adds.
