She is my driving force: Prateik Babbar
Prateik Babbar’s in love, and he can’t help but scream it from the rooftops. “Yes indeed, I think she’s absolutely amazing. I feel blessed to have her in my life,” he says of his special lady, Sanya Sagar.
Talking about how their relationship came to be, the actor says, “She and I belong to the same gang of friends; we would hang out as a group. One fine day, just the two of us met, and then we started meeting on a regular basis. Initially, we were both not inclined to get into a serious relationship, we just wanted to be friends. A relationship was just not something we were looking for.”
“When we started meeting on a daily basis, we had to ask ourselves... are we in a relationship? My track record has been shaky when it comes to matters of the heart, and I told her that. But now, we are in a relationship, and I don’t want to let her go. We joke that I have to get married to her because she’s very intelligent, and she will give me intelligent children. She is like a diamond,” Prateik gushes.
Sanya does seem to have had quite a positive impact on his life. “She has studied film in London, and she loves to work behind the camera. She is an exuberant writer, and she’s extremely hard working. In her company, I’ve also turned into a workaholic in the recent past. I have a few good projects lined up, and I am lucky that I have her with me. She is my driving force,” Prateik says.
So when are they planning to make it official? “We are engaged. We will probably tie the knot in 2019,” he says.
As he prepares for this next phase of his life, the actor is stuck by nostalgia. “God has always been very kind to me. He’s the omnipresent power that has helped overcome my complicated childhood. I’ve always questioned – why me? Who was my mother? And what about my father? I was brought up by my nana-nani, and my thinking never matched theirs. Owing to the generation gap, when my nani would say something, I would understand something else. I remember, I would run away from home and my grandparents would try to locate me. I’ve lived as a druggie, lying in a corner,” he says.
“Now, I am a changed man. I want to work hard and show my nana-nani that they need not worry about my wellbeing anymore. I want them to watch me from above, leading a sincere, drug-free life, working to the best of my abilities, and achieving my professional goals,” Prateik adds.
Ahead of the release of his film Mulk, he also hopes for a drastic change in the Indian political scene. “There should be no fear of terrorism or discrimination in our country. Peace and harmony need to prevail across the globe,” he says.
