CBFC's work is to grade films, not make cuts: Aamir on film board chopping scenes

The superstar also said that he feels the subject of censorship is somewhat irrelevant.

Mumbai: After taking the world by storm with his sports drama ‘Dangal’ last year, superstar Aamir Khan is back with yet another film on dreams and aspirations-- Secret Superstar-- that revolves around a 14 YO and the obstacles she overcomes to live them.

Now we all know that Aamir Khan is a man who chooses scripts that touch his heart and not go by their commercial value. So, when his former manager Advait Chandan approached him with a script about this young, aspiring singer, he loved it so much that he not only decided to produce it under his banner Aamir Khan Productions’ but also featuring in it as a ‘creepy musician who you do not want to be in the same room with’.

At the trailer launch of Zaira Wasim’s ‘Secret Superstar’, producer and co-star Aamir spoke at length about various subjects ranging from his unfulfilled wishes to Central Film Board of Certification (CBFC) proposing 48 cuts to the makers of Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer ‘Babumoshai Badookbaaz’.

When a journalist asked him if Pahlaj Nihalani-led CBFC kills the creativity of artists by demanding cuts, the ‘Taare Zameen Par’ star said, “I really feel that censorship is… I don't know how it is relevant. Board should grade the movies, not make cuts.”

Directed by debutant Advait Chandan, ‘Secret Superstar’ features younger Geeta from ‘Dangal’, Zaira Wasim, in the lead role and Aamir Khan as Shakti Kumar, an apparently creepy musician who plays the part of a mentor to the central character.
