Cabaret releases, finally
Pooja Bhatt’s dance film Cabaret starring Richa Chadda and Gulshan Devaiah has finally broken the impasse and is to be seen by viewers next week, albeit not in the movie theatres. It can be recalled that Pooja who is the main producer had major differences with the co-producers of the film T-Series and Wave over a few issues pertaining to the finance of the film and hence the film was not released in 2016 as planned.
The film’s promotions too had begun with a lot of fervour, but the impasse between the film’s producers led to the delay in the release of the film even though the songs of the movie had already hit the digital space and was rocking there. “But the film has now been taken over by Zee 5 who are now publicising the film to be released on their digital platform as a Zee 5 original film. It is wonderful that there are these OTT platforms today that have been able to help films reach the audiences after being stuck for different reasons,” says a source in the film trade.
Cabaret has Kaustav Narayan Niyogi making his debut as a writer, director, music composer and lyricist.
Cabaret also was to mark the acting debut of cricketer Sreesanth and the comeback of the nineties star Sharad Kapoor. But the delay in the film’s release meant that Sreesanth made his debut in the Ananth Mahadevan directed Aksar 2 and later went on to Bigg Boss, becoming the runner-up recently. Cabaret premieres on Zee 5 on January 9.
