Actor Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira, from his first marriage to Reena Dutta, registered her marriage with long-time boyfriend Nupur Shikhare in Mumbai on Jan 3, in a small ceremony attended by close family and friends at Mumbai’s Taj Lands End followed by a reception.
Unlike usual Bollywood weddings which are high on bling, glamour... and seem more like a red-carpet event, Ira Khan’s nuptials seemed a far more simple affair.
The haldi ceremony saw mother Reena and Aamir’s former wife Kiran Rao in traditional Maharashtrian attire. The bride herself was spotted comfortably dressed in a t-shirt and shorts. Ira, who has been vocal about her mental health and battle with depression, confesses that though her parent’s separation was amicable, as a child it had impacted her. She had revealed in an interview that depression was partly psychological, social and partly genetic. She had gone on to say, “In my case, there is a history of mental health issues in my family on my mom and dad’s side. My therapist said that one of the trigger points was my parents.”
In an interview, the actor spoke about his future son-in-law saying, “He is a lovely boy. When Ira was battling depression, he was with her. He is someone who has stood by her and emotionally supported her. I am happy that they are so happy together. They are very well connected, they look after each other and care for each other.”
The couple plan to have a grand wedding in Udaipur on January 8, followed by a reception in Mumbai on January 13 which will be attended by the entire film industry.
