Yes, the Indian beauty Persis Khambatta was the first ever Indian to present at the Academy Awards many years back.

Mumbai: Bollywood’s Desi Girl, Priyanka Chopra is surely going places and having the time of her life with back-to-back victories, both on big and small screens. The actress became the talk of the town after the news about her presenting an award at the Oscars broke out.

While we couldn’t be happier for the actress, she isn’t the first Indian star to do it. Yes, the Indian beauty Persis Khambatta was the first ever Indian to present at the Academy Awards many years back.

The actress and model, Persis made India proud back in 1980 when she took the stage at prestigious award show. The actress became successful after she spotted the daring bald look in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

In late 60s, the actress was honoured by the American media as “the prettiest Indian girl to be seen in the US in many years”.
