Fanning that huge ego: When Salman Khan, Rishi Kapoor, other celebs crossed the line
Being a celebrity has its own perks of popularity, fame, money and fan following. But there is a dark side to this acclaim. Some celebrities loose their cool, and think its okay to misbehave with fans slapping fans, creating chaos, throwing tantrums and becoming aggressive when things don’t go their way.
A recent incident had veteran actor Rishi Kapoor at the centres, who has been known to lash out against fans, media etc. He lashed out at a fan on Twitter who commented on the upcoming movie Sanju starring Ranbir Kapoor. The veteran actor called the fan a ‘pr***’ and ‘swine.’
Similarly, Salman Khan too has had his fair share of controversies. He recently co-erced a seven-year-old contestant from a reality show (where the team was promoting Race 3) to hug actress Jacqueline Fernandes. He received a lot of backlash for it. Singer and actor Aditya Narayan allegedly got into an argument with the airport staff in Raipur after he was asked to pay Rs 13,000 in excess baggage. The airline also said that he used ‘unparliamentary’ language while arguing with a female airport staff.
Actress Teena Ponappa says, “I feel that when fans show you so much love and affection, a celebrity needs to adore and respect it. It’s very important for a celebrity to remain grounded. It is lovely when people show you love and respect. This should however not get into one’s head. The more grounded you are, the affection and love one gets is twofold. When celebrities become arrogant, they start losing that respect they have earned. Not only media and the person in the situation, word of mouth also matters a lot.
Amitabh Bachchan is a huge star but he is such a grounded person. He is a legendary actor who hasn’t tarnished his name in anyway. Sometimes, celebrities too get angry when people cross the line and limits but it is important for celebrities to have a tolerance level. The best thing to do is to ignore. One does not have to slap or force people. The name and fame actors and actresses earn is for themselves. But the only thing they can give fans is love, affection and showing how down-to-earth and patient you are.”
