Navaratri greetings
On the first day of Navaratri – the festival dedicated to worshipping the nine avatars of Goddess Durga – Bollywood celebs took to social media to share wishes and prayers.
Actors Amitabh Bachchan, Sushmita Sen and Anupam Kher were among those who shared pictures of Goddess Durga.
“Subho Devi Pakhsh..Maa Durga in all her glory, ushers in new beginnings, abundance of hope & courage…and of course love!!! Happy Durga Puja & a blessed Navratri to you & all your loved ones!!! I love you guys beyond,” wrote Sushmita, tagging her daughter.
While Amitabh Bachchan shared a mantra on Durga Puja, actress-politician Hema Malini wrote, “The auspicious Navaratras begin today, when Ma Durga resides amongst us for 9 days, showering her blessings & ending with Vijaya Dashami to celebrate the conquest of the evil Mahishasura. May these holy days benefit all of us, bringing peace and happiness to everyone. Happy Navratri!”
Shilpa Shetty shared a glimpse of the celebrations at her home and wished her fans, besides seeking their blessings. She shared a video of herself offering prayers at the flower-bedecked temple at her house, and also posted a Devi Mantra on Instagram.
Actor Sanjay Dutt, Paresh Rawal and filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar too wished fans.
An all-India virtual garba competition - ‘Garba Ni Ramjat’ - was organised by Hyderaba-based garba choreographer, Bina Mehta. The online event on her YouTube channel had 70 participants and 8,000 viewers. The competition was judged by Sameer Tanna, Arsh Tanna and Bhavani Hemani, Bollywood folk dance choreographers.
