While speaking to the media after an FIR was lodged against him by Pratyusha’s parents for assault, intimidation and abetment of suicide, Mr Singh, asked, “If I was assaulting their daughter, then why had they never lodged a police complaint against me, and why did they allow me to stay with Pratyusha?”
According to Mr Singh, Pratyusha was under huge debt. The police has been suspecting that financial problems was one of the reasons behind Pratyusha taking the extreme step.

Commenting on the Banerjees’ allegations, Mr Singh said, “I don’t know how they have so much of time… They don’t have the self-realisation that they have lost a family member (sic).”
Earlier, Pratyusha’s parents had addressed a press conference, where they held Mr Singh responsible for Pratyusha’s suicide and also suspected that it could be a murder.
According to Mr Singh, as he was not married to Pratyusha, he could not make any allegations about her or her family. Mr Singh expressed his trust in the judiciary, saying truth would come out. “I’m not trying to prove any point but they (Pratyusha’s parents) are trying to prove their point,” he said.
As per the court order on Friday, Mr Singh went to the Bangur Nagar Police station to give his statement. Meanwhile, minister of state (home) Ranjit Patil put out a statement saying, “We have received the letter and have asked police officials to take up the case on a high-priority basis. If need be, we do not mind transferring the case to the crime branch,” He made the statement after Pratyusha’s parents wrote a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking a probe into her death by the crime branch.
