Exclusive: Priyanka has always played a mentor in my life, says her cousin Meera
A month ago, there were reports about how Priyanka Chopra’s cousin, Meera Chopra was all set to make her H’wood debut with a prime role in a Canadian fantasy series. There was also news of how Priyanka was instrumental in helping her cousin bag the role by arranging a meeting with a top casting official at the CTV Television Network.
To this Meera says, “The role is for a movie series being produced by CTV, one of the biggest channels in Canada. It is the role of an Indian girl who is an astrologer and makes a big difference to the life of a Canadian couple, which is going through trying times. They are projecting astrology as a very game-chancing Indian science,” Meera revealed.
So did Priyanka play an important role in helping her bag the role? “Priyanka has always played a mentor in my life and this time too she prodded me to take it up. She has always believed in experimenting with genres because she believes that even a seemingly less promising role could take you places in your career,” Meera recalls.
Meera, who has done her Masters in Business Management from New York, was at one stage planning to set up a fashion house in New York. “That was after I worked for three years in the south. I was not sure where my career was going. Later I bagged 1920 London but the offers I subsequently got were of a similar nature,” she said.
According to Meera, that was the time when Priyanka told her to stay focused on her career goals. Meera admits that she recently managed to catch up on precious time with Priyanka during her India visit. “She was here in December for 15 days and I was there with her for a long time. That’s when I realised that she had scripted a great success story for herself. When you meet her personally and when you see her at the Oscar red carpet, you feel that she is not the same girl. I think Hollywod has transformed her in a very good way. She is balancing both the industries in such a good way. I think she has truly become an international star.”
So is she looking at a full-fledged career in Hollywood? “Not yet. I am in the process of signing two projects in Bollywod but you never know, this could just be the beginning of a great career ahead,” she said.
