Mastering all trades: Shekhar Ravjiani has got it all going for him
After acting in the film Neerja, composer and singer Shekhar Ravjiani has added a new feather in his cap Music composer, singer and now an actor. Shekhar Ravjiani has got it all going for him.
“I am exploring it, let’s put it this way,” he says, adding, “I enjoyed the process of shooting for Neerja. I do a lot apart from just composing music for films, be it my production house, my independent singles or the publication company I’m coming up with. However, I feel really honoured to be a part of a story about Neerja Bhanot.”
“My role is just a cameo in the film, I play Sonam’s love interest. I was completely moved when I heard the story. Ram is an old friend of mine and he had told me that it was a brief role. When he offered me this role, I told him ‘you know what? if you ask me to be a statue in the garden also I will do it.’ I couldn’t say no to Ram,” he adds. Shekhar confesses that he wasn’t nervous.
“I was de-stressed. It was actually a vacation for me, as every single day was a learning experience. I wasn’t stressed about my looks or lines and I just went with the flow, enjoying every bit of it.
Everything about this movie was a beautiful, be it the days I shot or the song I sang, Gehra Ishq. While I was singing, Sonam dropped by alongwith the camera crew. We thought it would be more of a ‘making video’ but now the official video of the song. All great things are happening with this film.
“Although, I’m just playing a guest role in the film, I somehow feel responsible for this film. I am one of the extended family members of the film.”
So why acting? “Why not acting? Music is an expression like painting, and so is acting. It’s an extended art form and if something comes to you and you feel a certain energy at that point, then why not? I never wanted to be an actor. But since 2007, after seeing me on several reality shows, people come to me with offers saying they see potential in me.”
So what does he bring to the table in this film? “I bring honesty and positive energy to the film. I don’t think anyone’s in the film except from the credibility point of view,” he says.
