Akshay Kumar will replace Arshad Warsi in Jolly LLB 2
Director Subhash Kapoor is all set to make the sequel to his National Award-winning film Jolly LLB. But the twist in the tale is that he’ll have a new Jolly this time.
The role of Jagdish Tyagi that was essayed by Arshad Warsi in the original, will now be taken over by Akshay Kumar. Apparently, the director and the producers were of the opinion that since the premise and the story have changed, the lawyers also need to be different.
The first outing that also had Boman Irani in a pivotal role was backed by Fox Studios. After the film won the National Award, the studio made it clear that they wanted a bigger star for the sequel. A source close to the project revealed that an official announcement would be made soon, once the entire cast and the dates are finalised.
“Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani were in Jolly LLB and both had received a lot of critical acclaim but the makers were skeptical about repeating Arshad for the sequel, as his last few films didn’t do well. They wanted a bigger star and had apparently approached Saif Ali Khan also for the same.
But it finally fell into Akshay’s lap. There are also reports that instead of Boman Irani, Paresh Rawal will play the other important character in the sequel,” the source said.
There is no clarity on Boman’s role but as things stand today, Akshay has definitely replaced Arshad. Akshay’s Housefull 3 is ready for release and will be followed by Rustom, Robot 2, Namaste England and the remake of Kaththi.
While the shooting of Rustom and Robot 2 have been completed, the actor will now work out his dates between three projects — Namaste England, Jolly LLB-2 and Kaththi remake. We made several attempts to contact Arshad, Subhash and the studio, but all our calls went unanswered.
