How bizarre is the movie called life: Karan Johar on Movies and Spirituality with AiR

AiR-Atman in Ravi, the renowned Spiritual Guru, transformational Author, is changing the deep beliefs and notions about spirituality of Bollywood, one celebrity at a time. In his previous podcast episode, he is seen in conversation with ace Director, Filmmaker & host Karan Johar, and the two surely had an engaging rendezvous around films, Bollywood and most importantly, spirituality.

Karan Johar, who is currently riding high on the success of Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, was abuzz with questions for the Spiritual icon. Likening life to movies he asked, “In your thoughts and ideology, can life be a movie? We have seen that fiction draws from reality. But many times, the life and situations we come across are more bizarre than what we show in the movies. Real world is much more dramatic than celluloid. So, what according to you is this movie called life all about?”

Responding to it, the spiritual icon interestingly suggested that life is in fact nothing but a movie. Elaborating on the same, AiR said, “We think that a movie is a movie and are able to dissociate with it to an extent. So, when you say, Ranveer is Ranveer, I am Karan Johar, this is my real world and this is my mother, this is my family. What we don’t realise is life is nothing but a movie. We are actors. We come on stage to play our part. Say, for example, you are wearing costume of Karan Johar and acting as Karan Johar, and ultimately, when you die Karan Johar will die.”

“We say Karan Johar passed away. But in reality, the one who was wearing the costume of Karan passes away. Your soul doesn’t die but Karan Johar died. For movies we provide entertainment and edutainment. But life provides us with enlightenment. When we are recording, lights are on and when not, lights are off. Likewise, in life when there is enlightenment the light is turned on. Life is God’s leela and maya. We are actors we come and go. We don’t realise, that we differentiate that something happened in a movie, while real life is different, though in reality, it is almost similar,” he added.

Astounded with the answer and finding it deeply reflective, Karan further asked as to then who the producer and director of movie called life is. AiR-Atman in Ravi answered with ease again, giving the reference of an incident that happened, “Once, there was a debate at a symposium between a spiritual guy and scientist. It was a three day event and when on the third day the scientist saw a beautiful marble globe he wanted the address of the manufacturer. The spiritual guy replied, I don’t know. The scientist got offended and said, ‘it is fine if you don’t want to tell’. The spiritual guy says, for the past three days you are calling yourself the owner of this big company, and now want to know the manufacturer of this small globe. But what about the big globe? So, we might be praying to different gods- Krishna, Ram or Guru Nanak but the producer and director of this world is Supreme Immortal Power.”

The duo had a riveting conversation that includes many more interesting anecdotes and uncovers spirituality layer by layer. Notably, this comes just days after actress Malaika Arora unveiled the ‘Realizations of a Yogi’, a book penned by AiR-Atman in Ravi that summarize practical experiences from life.
