Juhi Chawla says working with SRK was special
Juhi’s illustrious career hit its peak in 1993, marked by standout performances in Lootere, Aaina, Darr, and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke. Notably, her portrayal of Kiran alongside Shah Rukh Khan in Darr has endured as a cultural phenomenon, celebrating its 30th anniversary today.
Beyond the silver screen, the enduring friendship between Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla has transcended into co-ownership of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team, a testament to their camaraderie both on and off the field.
Juhi fondly recalls Darr as one of her career’s cornerstones. Recounting her journey with Yash Chopra, she describes her initial foray in Chandni
opposite Vinod Khanna, directed by Yash Ji, as a pivotal but brief encounter. What set Yash Chopra apart was his practice of narrating the entire script, a rarity at that time, providing Juhi with a profound understanding of her roles in films like Aaina and Darr.
Thrilled at the prospect of Shah Rukh Khan playing the anti-hero, Juhi shares, “I can’t tell you how special it was for me to have worked with Shahrukh.” In the early days of her career, Juhi, a young girl navigating a colossal life experience, found comfort in the camaraderie with SRK, having previously worked with him in Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman.
Reminiscing about her camaraderie with Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi highlights the joyful pranks and memorable moments on set. These experiences,
though accompanied by fights and reconciliations, remain etched in her memory as undying moments of childlike fun.
Concluding on a heartfelt note, Juhi emphasizes Shah Rukh Khan’s respectful demeanour towards his leading ladies, asserting, “Shahrukh doston ka dost hai.”
Their enduring friendship, narrated with elegance by Juhi, reflects Shah Rukh Khan's consistent grace in the glittering world of Bollywood.
