Kareena earns praise for her best performance' in The Buckingham Murders'

The Hansal Mehta-directed atmospheric thriller premiered on the opening night at MAMI film fest

Social media has been abuzz after director Hansal Mehta’s The Buckingham Murders starring Bollywood’s leading lady Kareena Kapoor Khan, was screened as the inaugural night film at the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2023 on Friday. While many fashionistas may niff and naff about Kareena’s fashion choices, most of the audience, who watched the movie and stepped outside the auditorium late in the cool night said, “It’s probably her best performance.”

Kareena graced the red carpet wearing a relaxed black silhouette dress. It had a plunging V-neckline knotted design on the front hot pink full-length sleeves and a cinched waistline. And a pair of skyscraper heels. The dress was designed by ace designer Rajesh Pratap Singh. Kareena was accompanied by her sister Karishma Kapoor, who looked ravishing in a sequined black and white chiffon saree, and husband Saif Ali Khan, who looked dapper in a smart kurta and buttoned Nehru jacket ensemble. “I’m excited about the film. I think it’s going to be great. Hansal Mehta is a fantastic director and Kareena is a fabulous artist. So, I’m expecting a lot,” said Saif. The 10th Nawab of Pataudi was all praise for his wife and the colossal scale of the MAMI film festival. “If not Mumbai then where,” he quipped.

Also seen posing with Kareena for photos on the red carpet were co-producer Ekta Kapoor and director Hansal Mehta. The movie is an “atmospheric thriller” that delves into themes of grief, loss, trauma, closure, and the experience of an immigrant. Set in London, the movie sensitively portrays the trials and tribulations of a single mother and a police officer, who has lost her child in a shootout incident.

Award-winning director Anurag Kashyap who watched the movie, wrote on his Insta handle: “#KareenaKapoorKhan’s best performance ever in this moody film about loss and grief and murder by @hansalmehta.”

The Buckingham Murders was premiered at the 67th BFI London Film Festival.
