Varun Dhawan ups his fee by Rs 5 crore, thanks to his mentor Karan Johar
For the successful, the sky is the limit. And Varun Dhawan proves it. With a track record of hits to his credit since his debut in Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year, Varun has much reason to rejoice. Taking his stardom to new level of celebration, the Badlapur actor has upped his price apparently by a good Rs 5 crore.
A source close to the actor says, “Varun is currently the most commercially viable actors of his generation. None of his peers have his success ratio. He is a successful solo hero, while his contemporaries like Sidharth Malhotra, Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh are looking to consolidate their fan base. Ranveer is the closest rival to Varun, and the Bajirao Mastani actor was paid less than his market price for his three films with his mentor Sanjay Leela Bhansali.”
Varun, on the other hand, will now get his new swanky price from his mentor Karan. The source says, “So far, there was no financial arrangement between Varun and his mentor Karan. Varun did Karan’s films at whatever price Karan wanted to pay him. But now, in a film that Varun will do with his mentor in 2018, the Judwaa 2 actor will get his new market price.”
Apparently it is Karan who has advised the actor to hike his price. Sources say Varun, who was charging Rs 8 crore last, is now up to Rs 13 crore now. It remains to be seen if his father David Dhawan will pay him that price too. A source close to Varun says, “He’s working on it. Varun is focused almost completely on creating a body work free of failure.”
His next is an unusual love story with director Shoojit Sircar ,called October. The role was first offered to Ranbir Kapoor. Then Varun has director Sharat Katariya’s Sui Dhaaga, where he pairs up with Anushka Sharma for the first time. If October turns out to be Varun’s 10th consecutive hit, he will then be competing not with his contemporaries, but with the Khans of Bollywood.
