Vijay Sethupathi, This Actor was First Choice for Merry Christmas

The much-anticipated film "Merry Christmas," starring Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, has sparked curiosity since the release of its trailer, leaving viewers intrigued by the mysterious plot. While the unique pairing of Katrina and Sethupathi adds an interesting dynamic, director Sriram Raghavan recently revealed that Saif Ali Khan was initially considered for the lead role.

In conversation with the media, Raghavan shared that after completing "Andhadhun," he met Katrina Kaif and discussed the possibility of working together on a project. Wanting an unconventional pairing for "Merry Christmas," the director expressed, “I wanted a very unique kind of a pairing because that’s the story requirement. One should not get a baggage from either of them that, ‘What are these two people about,’ and so on.”

Raghavan disclosed that he had met another Bollywood actor for the role in "Merry Christmas," but things didn't materialize. When Katrina insisted on revealing the actor's name, he disclosed it was Saif Ali Khan. The director explained, “So I met him. He was a little upset that I told him no. But at that time, I had not casted Vijay Sethupathi. I just said, ‘I want something fresh. I don’t know what I am looking for.'"

Later, Raghavan met Vijay Sethupathi, realizing that the Tamil actor was proficient in Hindi. Impressed by Sethupathi's suitability for the role, he offered it to him, and the rest, as they say, is history. The decision to opt for a fresh pairing in "Merry Christmas" has heightened the anticipation surrounding the film, and fans are eager to witness the chemistry between Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi on screen.
