‘Aaj Ki Raat is a celebration of beauty’

Tamannaah Bhatia’s foot-tapping, sensuous dance number in her recently released film, Stree 2, may refuse to leave her fans’ minds, but the star herself has moved on. Her latest Netflix film is Neeraj Pandey’s Sikandar Ka Muqaddar.

Reflecting on her transformative role in the film, Tamannaah says, “My character, Kamini, is a complete transformation for me—a role that allowed me to step out of my comfort zone.”
She’s a blend of vulnerability and strength, and as the narrative unfolds, so does her journey. I’m grateful to Neeraj Sir for trusting me with such a complex role and to Netflix for this incredible opportunity to explore new dimensions in my craft.”

Collaborative effort

Tamannaah has worked down South and in Bollywood, and she feels filmmaking is a collaborative effort. “I don’t think one individual can make a film without the full support of a team. For me, the script alone is not important. Some directors tell a simple story in an interesting way. Therefore, effective storytelling can draw in audiences. When I watch a film on TV, OTT, or theatre, I seek a unique experience, as I am already fatigued from my work and life in general. I enjoy it if a story takes you to another world, where you forget your own life.”

Sense and sensuality

The Stree 2 dance number was sensuous hotness personified, yet the audiences looked at it as Tamannaah’s best art performance. She responds, “I am happy I’m receiving wonderful compliments. My look is different. I am celebrating my beauty. I love music and dance. I was born into a generation where I have the freedom to embrace my beauty. I am neither shy nor apologetic about it.”

Beauty is perception

“There is enough beauty on Instagram. Both you and I have access to an abundance of beautiful content. I don’t think cinema or art is about beauty. It’s about something that captivates and need not fall into the conventional meaning. So, beauty is a perception.”
