I will always want to outdo myself: Rohit Saraf

Rohit Saraf has come a long way — after Mismatched, The Sky is Pink and Ludo, he stole the limelight for his unforgettable performance as Hrithik Roshan’s younger brother in the Hindi version of Vikram Vedha. And as soon as his Ishq Vishk Rebound hits the screens on June 21, he will start shooting for Dharma Productions’ Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, alongside Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor and Sanya Malhotra. Here he is, in conversation with DC:

Q Having lost your father when you were 12, and been brought up by your mother, what do you feel about women of strength?
I think they run the entire world in all honesty. I have been brought up by four women — three of them are my sisters. My mother was the pillar of the family and took care of five children single-handedly. She sent her son, who was only 15, to another city to be the part of the business my dad was handling. She was criticised for it. And my sister-in-law is a new entrant in the family. They are changing the world one day at a time. They handle all problems and emerge victorious. So, in my opinion, no one can match the strength of a woman, including aaj ke zamane ki ladkiyan. You will get to watch the strength of the character played by Naila Grrewal in our film Ishq Vishk Rebound. It’s an exciting and relatable character. Most girls are going to fall for her character. She is dynamic and credible as an individual.

Q What have you learnt from your brother?
I have learnt how to be the man of the house. He started taking care of the entire family when he was 16. He had to quit studies. His hard work has managed to bring our digital tech company to a higher level.

Q Tell us about Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari.
I am all set to begin shooting for the Dharma Productions film immediately after the release of Ishq Vishk Rebound. The film is directed by Shashank Khaitan. It is a complete family entertainer. I have always been a fan of his work and to be doing a film with him is so exhilarating for me. I just can’t wait to begin working with Varun Dhawan, Janhvi and Sanya. I also have Mismatched Season 3 which will be released sometime this year. There are two more projects which I’m working on, but can’t reveal anything about them now.

Q What’s your goal?
Honestly speaking, through this journey of mine, I just wish to reach a lot more people and entertain them with my work. Right now, kids and the youth love my work. But I also want my work to be watched by the older generation, everyone. I want to do varied work.

Q You seem to have appropriated the love the younger generation has for Varun (Dhawan)!
Yes, I know Varun is the favourite amongst the kids. I would not like to snatch away their love from him. Instead, I would love to co-exist.

Q Tell us about your experience in B’Town.
I am very grateful! It’s been 12 years and the journey is still going strong. When I look back, I feel I have become richer in experience and my world vision has been enriched by the sheer ups and downs that have happened to me. I’m extremely lucky to be part of this kind of story-telling. But, no matter how much I may achieve, I will never stop working hard. I will always want to outdo myself. I don’t necessarily look forward to competing with anyone else, but I compete with myself every single day.
