The sky’s the limit for me, says Pragya Jaiswal

Pragya Jaiswal, who is debuting in Bollywood with Akshay Kumar-starrer Khel Khel Mein, already has a strong footing in Tollywood. The actress, who loves being in front of the camera, has walked as a show stopper for many fashion designers, and feels her career naturally segued from modelling to films. “This is just the beginning,” she says. “There’s a long way to go, and the sky’s the limit.”

Excerpts from an interview:

Q Coming from the small city of Jabalpur, what was cinema to you then and what is it now?
Back in the days when I was young, I was a bookworm and I only focused on my studies. I didn’t think I would be associated with the world of cinema and didn’t know it was a career option. But I took a liking for cinema while I was in college and wanted to pursue a career in it. Now, Cinema is my life.

Q How do you look at your career graph in Tollywood and Bollywood?
I feel I have chosen characters which I liked. Maybe some films have worked, some haven’t, but I’m happy with the career graph. I have worked with some of the most incredible actors and directors but I feel like I have just begun, and there is a long way to go.
I’m very grateful, but I don’t stress on ‘name and fame’ mantra. I focus on my work.
Q You shuttle between Hyderabad and Mumbai. What do you have to say about each city?
Both are special. I started my career in Hyderabad, so it will always be special for me. Secondly, the people are very warm, welcoming and loving. I was instantly accepted in this industry. And being a foodie, I love the delicious food here – I can’t resist the Hyderabadi biryani, I love idli-dosa and sambar. In fact, I love all south Indian food.
Mumbai is also home for me now, as I have family and friends there. The energy in the city is infectious, it keeps you on your toes and makes you put your best foot forward each day.

Q Tell us about your upcoming projects.
Other than Khel Khel Mein, I’m shooting for the Telugu films ‘NBK 109’ (holding title) and Tyson Naidu. Both characters I play are super special, and I’ll reveal more when I can.

Q What was it like, working with NBK?
It’s been one of the most enriching experiences of my professional life. I learnt that you have to treat every shot as almost your first shot. For Sir, every shot is the most important shot. His passion and enthusiasm for work is something that makes you give your best every time.
