Throwback: when Sridevi bribed her kids to learn break dance
During an interview with Siddharth Kanan recently, choreographer cum filmmaker Ahmed Khan shared some beautiful memories about legendary actress late Sridevi. Discussing his childhood experiences as a child actor, Khan said Sridevi was reserved off-camera until she transformed into another personality once cameras started rolling.
Khan noted that even when not shooting she remained calm throughout. Every time action was called by the director however she would just change into Seema her character and act like there’s no tomorrow in terms of energy or dedication put into that performance. She was one person who could switch between the self and professional actor without a hitch leaving an unforgettable impression on Khan and other kids on the set too.
Comparing her to another popular entertainer, he likened Sridevi’s transformation to that of Michael Jackson. Off-stage, Jackson was known for his soft-spoken nature while his performances were usually explosive. This incredible energetic presence on screen contrasted sharply with her shy demeanor off screen making her a favorite among many.
Sridevi eventually warmed up to the children on set over time despite her initial quietness around them. One such incident involved a hospital scene shot after a bomb blast which still remains etched in Khan’s memory till today. The scene was very intense as it revolved around the death of someone in particular. In those moments of high tension, Sridevi led Khan and other children into the doctor’s room where they shared ice cream showing how playful she could be sometimes.
