Why Hema Malini Never went to Dharmendra’s house

Describing Bollywood actor Dharmendra as the Indian cinema’s He-man is probably true. Within the following year, the actor got married to his first spouse, Prakash Kaur. They have four children: two sons – trendy actors Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, and two daughters – Vijeta and Ajieeta. Three years later Dharmendra tied the knot with the Bollywood beauty Hema Malini who bore him two daughters Esha and Ahana Deol. But the veteran actress Hema Malini confirmed that she did not even see Prakash Kaur or went to Dharmendra’s house in all those more than forty years of their marriage.

In a book called Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl written by journalist and director Ram Kamal Mukherjee, Hema Malini has explained the reasons for her avoiding Dharmendra’s first family. Reportedly, she had come to know Prakash Kaur in such social occasions before marriage with Dharmendra, thereafter they never met as she became the latter’s spouse.

Thinking of the explanation she gave for her choice, Hema Malini said: “I wanted to have no one disturbed. I am quite content with everything Dharamji has done for me and my daughters. He acted out a father’s role and he played it well. I guess I am happy with that. Presently, I am a working lady and this is enabling me to uphold my self-respect as it has been with her career in arts and culture.”

Hema Malini also praised Prakash Kaur for some reasons even though she has never mentioned her in public. “I should make it clear that though I have never spoken about Prakash I have great respect for that lady. Maybe my daughters also see the respect towards Dharamji's family. People want me to describe all my life in detail and it is very inappropriate. It is nobody’s business," she said.

According to sources, Esha Deol is the only person in the family of Hema Malini who went to Dharmendra's residence. Esha, as per reports, had gone when Dharmendra's younger brother, who is also the father of actor Abhay Deol, was ill and confined to bed.

Hema Malini has not been dormant for even a moment even after reaching the age of 75. The most unique movie in which she has appeared so far was ‘shimla mirchi’ in which she acted with Rajkummar Rao and Rakul Preet Singh in 2020. In 2011, she took the initiative and produced the movie Tell Me O Khuda in which her daughter Esha Deol was the lead. It can be said without any doubt that Hema Malini is one of the admired and adored actresses in the Bollywood industry despite the turmoil in her private life.
