Ram Pothineni from Double iSmart and Ravi Teja from Mr Bachchan
No doubt, the much-hyped sequel ‘Double iSmart’ has good openings by repeatedly drawing Rs 4.5 crore net collections on day one in the two Telugu states and surpassed the collections of Mr Bachchan far ahead. It is considered a good opening for the Ram Pothineni film and also it had the advantage of being the sequel to earlier hit movie ‘iSmart Shankar,” says a distributor. The combination of Ram Pothineni and Puri Jagannadh also triggered some interest and good collections on the first day in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. “The film was released in more than 300 odd theatres and also had some advance bookings too,” he adds.
Whereas, Mr Bachchan could reportedly anage to draw just Rs 3 plus crore net collections and falls short of 'Double iSmart ' on day one. “The competition was inevitable, yet Ravi Teja and Harris Shankar couldn’t draw sensational openings despite big promotions,” he adds
Director Puri Jagannadh was looking for a comeback after duds like ‘Liger’ but he didn’t find an interesting script to strike a chord with the masses. “Even Harris Shankar for looking to deliver a big bit but couldn’t make a convincing film which had a lot of loopholes in the script and comedy wasn’t upto the mark and it resulted in poor show at ticket windows’ he concludes.
