Double iSmart clocks Rs.7.5 cr in 2 days, rides on negative reports?
The much-hyped sequel ‘Double iSmart’ opened well on Thursday, but the collections have dropped on Friday and it has to pick up faster to regain its glory. “The film managed to collect Rs 7.5 crore net collections in two days and it has made another Rs 20-odd crores in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana since it was sold for a big price,” says a distributor. No doubt the heady combination of Ram Pothineni and Puri Jagannadh evoked curiosity and expectation around the film and it managed to draw openings on day one. “If the film had been more than average, the audience would have made it a winner but the 'double sim' transfer and Ram behaving differently has dented its prospects,’ he adds.
No doubt, their earlier film ‘iSmart Shankar’ was a blockbuster since it had a path-breaking plot of ‘memory transfer’ from an honest officer to a street-smart guy to protect crucial information about evil doers. “It had a logical point and even Ram’s energetic performance and dancing helped the film to make merry at the box office. We cannot say the same about the sequel which had double ‘memory transfers’ and double annoying moments to test audience patience and it is reeling,” he points out.
Ram Pothineni wanted to make a comeback of sorts after flops like ‘Warrior’ and ‘Skanda’ and agreed to do a sequel to his action film but is not going to give him a hit. “More promotions could salvage the film since its chances of turning into a blockbuster are weak,” he concludes.
