G.O.A.T buyers to lose Rs 13 crores in AP/TG?
Of late, Tamil superstar Vijay’s market in the two Telugu states has been expanding but his latest film ‘G.O.A.T (Greatest of All Times) sank without a trace and dented his ratings. The Telugu dubbing rights were reportedly sold for over Rs 16 crores in the two Telugu states. “Telugu distributors would be losing Rs 13 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana since the film failed to set the box office on fire,” says a producer, who adds “The action film managed to collect a meager Rs 2.5 crore share for few days and later fizzled out, while it is rocking box office in Tamil Nadu and USA,’ he adds.
Vijay’s earlier releases like ‘Varasudu’ garnered around Rs 12 crores, and ‘Leo’ made more than Rs 20 crores in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. “Vijay is a new happening star in Telugu states since his films are minting money at the box office. He was on the verge of a hattrick in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana with his film ‘G.O.A.T’ but it turned out to be a damp squib,” he adds. Last time, Sithara Entertainments made good money with ‘Leo’. “Vijay has surpassed his colleagues like Rajnikanth, and Karthi in the Telugu dubbing market but his latest outing truly disappoints,' he concludes.
Vijay's dual roles with contrasting shades failed to strike a chord with Telugu viewers and it bombed badly.
