Golden Globe Winner Adrien Brody talks about what he liked about The Brutalist
“I saw The Brutalist as a story of quiet perseverance and the need to strive for excellence”

National, 17th February, 2025: A structurally beautiful film suffused with soulful performances, The Brutalist stands as a powerful homage to the immigrant journey with its depiction of struggles and triumphs. Universal Pictures (distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery) is all set to launch the most awaited Golden Globe-winning Best Motion Picture Drama, The Brutalist, in theaters on February 28, 2025. Directed by the visionary Brady Corbet, the intense historic drama has a stellar cast starting with Academy Award winner Adrien Brody as the lead character, delivering an unforgettable performance. Accompanying him are fellow Academy Award winner Felicity Jones, along with talented actors Guy Pearce and Joe Alwyn, each one of them bringing their extraordinary skills to enrich this captivating story.
The Brutalist unfolds the riveting tale of László Toth, played by Adrien Brody, a Hungarian-Jewish architect who, after enduring the horrors of the Holocaust, seeks a fresh start in America. Separated from his wife, Erzsébet (played by Felicity Jones), who remains stranded in post-war Eastern Europe with their niece, László faces the daunting task of building a new life alone. His exceptional architectural talent catches the eye of Harrison Lee Van Buren, a powerful industrialist in Pennsylvania, offering him a path to success. However, as László rises in prominence, he discovers that ambition, power, and legacy come at an immense personal cost. The film delves into themes of resilience, identity, and the sacrifices made in pursuit of greatness.
Reflecting on his deep connection to Hungary, which predates the film, Adrien Brody shared that his mother, Sylvia Plachy was born in Budapest and forced to flee as a young girl during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 saying, “I saw The Brutalist as a story of quiet perseverance and the need to strive for excellence,” says Brody “Even when the ground has been ripped out from underneath you.”
He further adds, “It’s wonderful to have a storytelling approach that allows enough time with a character to see and experience a life in total, which is what Brady and Mona have achieved in The Brutalist. Oftentimes you jump into the action and things happen in a story — but you don’t know the person you’re on the journey with. This film encompasses a 30-year span of one man’s life.”
The highly anticipated historical drama which has garnered praises across the globe and has won numerous awards, The Brutalist is set to release in India on February 28th, 2025.
