Gopichand Hindi market soars, ‘Viswam’ sold Rs 13 cr?

No doubt, the Hindi market of action hero Gopichand has soared a bit and his upcoming film ‘Viswam’ has been bought for Rs 13 crores by Hindi distributors. “It is a good price for Gopichand in the Hindi dubbing market,’ says a distributor who adds, “Gopichand and Sreenu Vaitla combination has paid off since Hindi distributors bought the action film for a hefty price,” he adds.

Even though his last few films like ‘Ramabanam’ and ‘Bhimaa’ couldn’t spin box office magic and also dented the Hindi dubbing market. “Of course, his market fell deeply but now things are improving a bit,” he adds. Gopichand movies were selling like hot cakes in the Hindi market but things changed a bit. His films were sold for Rs 10 and 12 crores at one point of time but later it dropped to Rs 6 to 7 crore per film and caused some concern, “he points out.

He admits that Telugu action films had some good traction among Hindi film viewers in theatres and on the small screen. “Gopichand has to retain this new-found market by doing more action films and move ahead,” he adds.

People Media Factory would be hoping to recover their Rs 35 crore investment through digital and theatrical rights after selling Hindi dubbing rights for a good sum.
