Social Media influencer Vikas Jayaram Pathak, famously known as Hindustani Bhau, alleged that Farah Khan’s “Chhapri" comment on Holi festival insulted religious feelings.
Jayaram Pathak has filed a criminal complaint against filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan for allegedly saying, "Holi is the festival of Chhapris.”
"I have submitted a complaint which demands a legal action. The PI from Khar Police Station has yet not registered an FIR. Farah Khan made a remark saying that Holi is celebrated by "Chhapris" in a TV show. It's an insult to the religious feelings of the Sanatanis (Hindus). We will wait for the police authorities to investigate the matter and register FIR,” said Jayaram Pathak.
Pathak said that he is not going to take back the complaint filed against Farah Khan. ”If they insult our festivals and Hindu dharma, should we offer a shawl and a naryal and respect them for their hurtful act. I am sure we will be able to get justice. I believe and have full faith in my constitution and our legal system. We have just registered our complaint. Sufficient time has to be given to the Police authorities to investigate and inquire the matter properly. I believe truth prevails and I will never take back my complaint filed against Farah Khan for allegedly terming Holi as a festival of ‘Chhapris’,” he said.
When asked about getting phone calls from politicians, he said, ”It takes a little time, but truth will prevail. Yes, I did get some calls from a few politicians who are my friends as well. When I explained the matter to them, they understood me well. If they interfere, then I shall reveal their names. However, after hearing how Farah Khan has hurt the feelings of the Sanatani, they understood why I am proceeding with the matter.”
Advocate Kaashif Ali Khan Deshmukh stated, ”We will be waiting till Monday. If no action is taken and an FIR is not registered, then we will not be approaching the magistrate court but we will directly be approaching the High Court. As per the Supreme Court judgement of Lalita Kumari, which states- the cognizable offence once made, it’s mandatory for the Police authorities to register the FIR. If they don’t register the FIR, then they are answerable to the court.”
"According to Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the sections are 196,299,302 and 353. We are setting the criminal law in motion and we have dispatched it to Khar Police Station,” he added.
Our text messages to director/Choreographer Farah Khan were not responded. Farah Khan remained unavailable for comment.
