The spirit of Chennai
Actor Bose Venkat was an autorickshaw driver in the city before coming to films. He has now turned filmmaker, and his Kanni Maadam is based on his own life-experiences. The film is said to define the essence of Madras. “How a 20-year-old girl runs away from her native village and comes to Chennai, her struggles and how she survives form the crux of the movie,” he says.
While Sriram and Gayathri play the leads, Aadukalam Murugadoss, Gajaraj, Valeena Prince and Vishnu Ramasamy form the supporting cast.
Gayathri is the daughter of director Yaar Kannan and the film revolves around her.
Robo Shankar has crooned a song based on autorickshaw drivers. Antony Dasan has also sung one song.
Though Bose had completed the film in a short span of time, he was finding it difficult to get a presenter to release it. Sources say that Senbagamoorthy of MSM Movie Traders has come forward to do the honours.
