Protégé of AR Rahman shines
With the song Chillatta Pillatta from the blockbuster film Kanchana 2, young playback singer Jagadeesh has hit the bull’s eye. A student of the KM Music School and a protégé of Oscar winner AR Rahman, Jagadeesh says, “Rahman sir did an unplugged video version of the chartbuster song Narumugaye from Iruvar, where only live instruments were used. As students of KM, we were also part of it. The video, in which ARR appears, was a huge hit. It was a proud moment for me.”
Though he started singing with a Jeevan film, it was Kanchana 2 that brought him into the limelight. “It was an enriching experience working with Rahman sir as part of the chorus for many films, as well as independent songs in films like Kochadaiyaan, Tamasha and I,” says Jagadeesh who is also part of the maestro’s Qawwali team. He heaps praise on the Grammy winner — “Though he is a soft spoken person, he will encourage budding singers. And, only a few know that he has got a great sense of humour!”
Now a busy artiste, Jagadeesh is excited that his number Maja, which he rendered along with actor Vijay Sethupathi, and the title song of Hello Naan Pei Pesugiren which hit the marquee on Friday, have both been received well.
