Karthik Naren is a gift to cinema: Arvind Swami

Finally, the director himself opened up about the controversy with Gautham Menon.

“Naragasooran is Karthik Naren’s film. He is a gift to Tamil cinema,” remarked Arvind Swami at the film’s trailer launch, adding, “Karthik knows exactly what he wants, and gets the best out of us - be it the actors or the technical crew. He communicates clearly with everyone. Every role is well defined, and our job is just to stick to it”.

Indirectly alluding to the financial crunch they faced under their previous producer Gautham Menon, he said, “The only person who stretched beyond his role was producer Badri Kasturi.”

Actor Sandeep also said a few words at the event. “I am not allowed to say much about my role, but Aathimika and I play a newly-married couple. My character is unpredictable, and he has a second dimension to him. This was the first time I agreed to do a film without hearing the script. When Naren called me, I immediately made up my mind to do Naragasooran,” he said.

Finally, the director himself opened up about the controversy with Gautham Menon. “After watching my debut film Dhuruvangal Padhinaaru (D 16), Gautham sir said that he wanted to meet me. When we met, he asked if I had an idea in mind for my next project, one that we could work on together. That’s how he came about to produce Naragasooran. Later on, though, he could not cope up with finances. What happened on Twitter was just a normal outburst, there are no issues now. Badri Kasturi has completed the film, and I don’t wish to talk about it anymore. The matter is being handled by the Tamil Film Producers Council.”

Naragasooran, which is scheduled to hit silver screens on August 31, also features popular M-town actor Indrajith, who’s making his Tamil debut, and actress Shriya Saran in an important role.
