Sarathkumar plays encounter specialist in VTS
Playing a cop isn’t new to Sarathkumar. The actor will soon be seen in the role of an encounter specialist in the upcoming film Velachery Thuppaaki Soodu, which is based on a real-life police firing incident. The cop thriller has been directed by S.T. Vendhan of Inbha fame, and it stars Iniya as the female lead playing a human rights commission officer.
Talking about the film, Vendhan says, “If the police take law and order into their own hands, it’s termed a violation of human rights. But no one comes to the rescue of policemen who are attacked by anti-social elements and criminals. We are not saying that innocent people should be killed, but sometimes, when situations get out of control, policemen are forced to resort to firing. That’s precisely what Sarath, the encounter specialist, argues in the film. Meanwhile, Iniya presents the public’s perspective.”
Which side of the fence does the director sit on? “I am not opinionated. The audience can form their own interpretations and conclusions,” he says.
Vendhan says he has done his research on how it is largely workers from north India who are involved in the commission of major crimes in Tamil Nadu. “The film has been named after the Velachery area of the city, where the high-octane climax scenes have been shot,” he concludes.
