A red card for Silambarasan Rajhendran?

Although Simbu was lauded for being punctual on sets, it appears now has has slipped back into his habit.

Silambarasan Rajhendran and controversy go hand in hand. Despite being a talented actor which is known for his technical knowledge of the industry, the actor has always been mired in trouble due to his alleged lack of professionalism.

With complaints mounting against Simbu at the Tamil Film Producers Council, speculation runs high that the actor will be slapped with a red card, which means he will not be signed by any Tamil film producer.

A couple of years ago it was producer Michael Rayappan who complained to the Tamil Film Producers Council about his incurring a huge loss (Rs 2 crores) as Simbu did not turn up for the shoot of Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan and the matter is yet to be resolved.

Several producers are up in arms now against STR and they are filing complaints against him. Producer Suresh Kamatchi recently announced that Simbu has been dropped from his film Maanadu, a political thriller to be directed by Venkat Prabhu. The film did not take off despite several dates being announced. Irked by the undue delay and unprofessional behaviour of STR, Suresh stated he would start the film soon with another actor. He has also reportedly approached Producers Council and lodged a complaint against Simbu to get back the advance paid to the actor.

Gnanavel Raja, who signed STR for his Tamil remake of Kannada hit Mufti, is peeved with the actor as he left for Thailand midway through the shoot. The movie, which co-stars another hero in Gautham Karthik, is stuck as the producer could not resume the shoot. It is said Simbu does not pick up the calls from the producer. Gnanavel had no other choice but to move the TFPC with his grievance.

Producer Vijay Raghavendra, whose banner is said to have paid Simbu Rs 2 crores as salary for Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya 2, has been waiting for the actor to turn up for two years. The long delay has resulted in Vijay approaching Producers Council. Escape Artists Madan has also made a complaint against STR for delaying his project.

Though Simbu was lauded last year by the unit members of Mani Ratnam for turning up on time for their film Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, the way things are going now, it looks like the actor has slipped back into his habit of putting producers and filmmakers in trouble with his unprofessional behaviour.

When DC contacted producer JSK Satish, who is a member of the TFPC’s ad-hoc committee, he confirmed that the council has received multiple complaints against STR. However he clarified, “I agree that we have been getting many complaints against STR. As of now, we have not issued a red card against Simbu. However, he is in Bangkok and we are talking to him over the phone. And he is willing to cooperate and says he would settle the issues. He is expected in the city anytime. Unless he sorts out these issues, no producer in future would sign him up for any Tamil film. We are hoping for the best.”
