Siva took 8 months to come on board: Bakkiyaraj Kannan
Director Bakkiyaraj Kannan is probably the luckiest man in the industry — after all, he got to work with legends in his debut film itself! Remo, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Keerthy Suresh, has cinematographer PC Sreeram and sound engineer Resul Pookutty as part of the technical team.
Speaking to DC, Bakkiyaraj says, “After seeing Varuthapadatha Vaalibar Sangam, I really wanted to work with Sivakarthikeyan. When the time came, I narrated the story of Remo to him for nearly 20 minutes. Even though Siva liked the film, he was apprehensive about essaying the role of a nurse. It took him almost eight months to give us his approval!”
The director reveals that it was difficult for the actor to dub for the lady character — “It was our (Siva and himself) call to make him dub for the nurse role. People would come to the theatre wanting to watch Siva, so we didn’t want to miss out on that. Also, his comic timing is one of his plus points. With Resul sir’s help, Siva did some brilliant mimicry. He dubbed six times to get the modulation right!”
When asked him if he felt the pressure of collaborating with PC Sreeram and Resul Pookutty, Bakkiyaraj asserts, “I felt it before shooting, but now it is more of a responsibility as my work shouldn’t affect their image. PC sir is child-like and we never had any arguments on the sets.”
He further states that the film has all the elements of a commercial entertainer. “Love has a global appeal — that is why we planned to release it worldwide. Remo will cater to all kinds of audiences,” he adds.
