Porukkies is not against government Radha Ravi
Cinematographers turning filmmakers is not something new in Tamil cinema. The latest one to join the bandwagon is Manjunath of Savarakatthi and Pisasu fame. With the trend of keeping odd and strange titles, he has named his film as Porukkies (scoundrel) with the tagline - Alla Naangal. (we are not).
Speaking at the audio launch of the film Radha Ravi, who plays a crucial role in the movie, said, “The film which talks about several issues including agriculture, prohibition of alcohol is not against the government. But, it points out the shortcomings in the government. Though Manjunath looks quiet, he always discusses revolutionary ideas.”
Taking a dig at actors turning singers he said, “New singer Alayamani who has penned and sung the songs in this film has done a great job. These days when big actors start crooning in every other film, a trained singer like Alayamani deserves accolades.”
Besides farmers’ problems, the movie also deals with how one of our ancient folk arts of Koothu is almost gone to extinct and the present state of folk artistes etc, says Manjunath. JK Riteesh, Karu Pazhaniappan, Suresh Kamatchi and social activist Piyush Manush were spotted on the occasion.
