Not interested in getting married: Oviya

The 28-year-old Oviya was clearly very young when she started off with Kalavani.

At the promo meet of Kalavani 2, the lead actress Oviya speaks of the film, which stars Vimal in the male lead, the controversies surrounding one of her older films and her tryst with contentment She had created quite the flutter with her “army” of followers post her participation in Bigg Boss Tamil in 2017. Then she ruffled many feathers with her bold role in 90 ML. But Oviya, with her close-to-10 year stint in the Tamil film industry, is only looking ahead.

Starting off with her latest, Kalavani 2, the actress assures us that it will be quite unlike its prequel given the changes the director Sarkunam has brought into it. “It is indeed a sequel, but the director has made lot of changes in it. The film is a rocking comedy against the backdrop of local body elections. Vimal plays a guy who stands for the president’s post in the elections. I essay the girl who heads the Magalir Ani. More than the chemistry between me and Vimal, what needs to be watched out for is the chemistry between Saranya Madam and Ilavarasu sir,” explains a smiling Oviya.

Looking back:
The 28-year-old Oviya was clearly very young when she started off with Kalavani. But her life experiences over the last 10 years have clearly left her level-headed.

“I don’t believe in number games. There is enough space for everyone in the industry. Whatever has to come to me will come my way. So also, I don’t confine myself to any particular role. And while I am getting some good female-centric scripts, I don’t mind doing enjoyable extended cameos, like that in Silukkuvarpatti Singam. Honestly, I am contented with what I have, and if nothing works, I’ll go to the Himalayas and spend time there,” chuckles the actress who is presently busy with a Malayalam, women-centric horror-thriller Jessica.

Unfazed by the flaks she received for her bold role in the adult-content movie 90 ML Oviya says she is even ready for its sequel. “As long as my films make profits for my producers, I don’t care about the adverse comments and related controversies. I am not worried about my image either,” says the bold actress.

Talking party lines
Oviya’s had her share of ‘elections’ with her fans pushing for her, to save her from eliminations in Bigg Boss. So we couldn’t help but ask if she’d be keen on entering politics some time. “Many on my social media handle ask me this because I have an ‘Oviya Army’ post my Bigg Boss Tamil stint. But I am not keen on joining politics. Even if such a situation arises, I would enter politics in Tamil Nadu rather than in Kerala because Tamil films have given me the most,” says the actress.

Talking of the future, we’re curious to know what her plans are. “I am not interested in getting married. Not that I am against men; it is just that I want to be a free bird and I don’t need a partner. But yes, I believe my life has enough interesting materials for a biopic. So if anyone’s ever willing to make my biopic, I’d love to be part of it,” says the effervescent actress, signing off.
