Marudhanayagam: Kamal Haasan hopes

At a recent interaction with the inmates of Bigg Boss 3, Kamal said he is keen to revive Marudhnayagam and is making all efforts.

Once again Kamal Haasan gives hope that he would be reviving his pet project Marudhanayagam, a historical movie on 18th century warrior named Mohammed Yusuf Khan.

At a recent interaction with the inmates of Bigg Boss 3, Kamal said he is keen to revive Marudhnayagam and is making all efforts. But he admitted that he needed high technical expertise and a mammoth budget for the gargantuan project.

Marudhanayagam, shelved almost 22 years ago, was launched with much fanfare way back in 1997, with Queen Elizabeth II and several K'town and Bollywood celebrities attending it. Ulaganayagan himself was to produce and wield the megaphone besides playing the titular role. The film, boasting of names like Sathyarj, Nasser and Pasupathy, was put on cold storage for lack of funds (budgeted at Rs `100 crores then) and there have been rumours on and off of the project being revived.

In an interview to this newspaper, the actor had said that the first 30 minutes of the multilingual (including English) Marudhanayagam had been shot and was ready.

Currently, Kamal is concentrating on two of his projects, Indian 2 directed by Shankar and produced by Lyca Productions and Thalaivan Irukkindraan, touted to be a story based on modern day politics and underworld. Kamal pens the story and directs it and essays the lead.
