Let's talk films!
The 14th Chennai International Film Festival, organised by Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation, kickstarted on January 6th, with many celebrities and delegates of various film associations. Suhasini Maniratnam, the member of the festival’s red carpet team, claimed that this time the festival would be low-key considering the demise of the former Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa.
The inauguration was presided over by noted filmmaker Bharathiraja, who, in his speech, said that to organise a festival consistently for 14 years is a commendable effort. “I request the young filmmakers to learn the techniques and culture of foreign countries through their films. Then with those skills, make Tamil films that will propagate our culture worldwide,” he added.
The event was also attended by Nadigar Sangam delegates, actors Vishal and Karthi. The head of the Producers’ Council, Kalaipuli S Thanu, was also felicitated during the ceremony. About 180 films will be screened across five venues in the city for eight days. Films from countries like France, Italy, China, and Israel will be part of the festival.
