Don't compare me with anyone: Anjali
Anjali, who has migrated to Hyderabad for good, was in the city for the promotions of her upcoming film Mapla Singam with actor Vemal in the lead. The pretty actress plays a lawyer in the movie directed by Rajashekar, an assistant to Ezhil. Talking about her character she says, “Playing an advocate, I have to speak lengthy dialogues in MS. That was a new experience for me. The movie, which is set in a village, is about two warring families with political backgrounds, narrated in a witty manner.”
On her co-star Vemal, she says, “This is the third time I am teaming up with him so I am quite comfortable. He gives his co-stars space to perform.” Explaining one of her promo stills, which shows her campaigning as a politician in an open jeep, she says— “That’s a suspense segment in the film. I can’t reveal much about it.” Ask her why she is constantly in the news for the wrong reasons, she says, “That’s the work of jobless gossip mongers. I am extremely busy with my Tamil and Telugu projects and I have no time to even think about all these things.”
Reportedly, producers projected her as a competitor to Nayanthara — “No way! I have lots of respect for Nayanthara. Do not compare me with anyone. As I have set my own path, I want to act in good films and stay here for a long time. However, there isn’t anything wrong with healthy competition.” The Angadi Theru girl, who has shed six kilos through a strict diet regime and workout, says, “I still look plump and want to reduce my weight!”
Anjali takes a glam avatar in her upcoming bilingual Yaar Nee (Chitrangada in Telugu) in K’town. Apart from this, she is also crooning a song in this film, for the first time in her career — “Since I am fluent in Tamil and Telugu, director Ashok G felt that I have a good voice and he insisted that I should give it a try. I am happy that the composers complimented me, saying that the output is very good!” she signs off.
