Comedy is my forte: Ezhil
Director Ezhil’s previous project, Velainnu Vandhutta Vellakaran, was one of the best entertainers of 2016. Now, the director is gearing up for the release of his upcoming project, Saravanan Iruka Bayamen, which boasts of an ensemble cast — Udhayanidhi Stalin, Regina Cassandra, Srushti Dange, Yogi Babu, Soori, and many more.
Speaking to DC about the film, Ezhil says, “VVV was a comedy entertainer, but Saravanan Iruka Bayamen will have a dose of commercial elements — family sentiment, love and political satire. I started working on the film when VVV was ready for release. We shot the movie in the locales of Karaikal, Kannur, Thiruvarur and Tharangambadi.”
The director admits that SIB will be a proper stress-buster for the people.
“In the movie, Soori will be offered the post of a party head. But, he runs away from the village and eventually Udhayanidhi is offered the position. The issues that follow form the story. While Srushti will be seen as a college girl, Regina’s character is rude and there is a constant animosity between Udhay and her from their childhood. Soori, for the first time has attempted a villain character,” he adds.
Doing a comedy film is not a cake walk, he discloses — “Comedy is my forte and it is really difficult to execute it on screen. Most of my films are multi-starrers. It is not a conscious decision. I go for experienced artists to convey my story
effectively.”
When asked if he would always stick to family entertainers, Ezhil asserts, “I would love to come out of the image trap. Sadly I am not getting investors. I have a lot of interesting stories to tell — maybe it will happen in future.”
