A pan Indian' actor in the making: Abhishek George

Abhishek George, a theatre artiste-turned actor, is going places.

Abhishek George, who made a mark with his roles in some quality movies like Demonte Colony, My Son Is Gay, and Adhey Kangal, is gearing up for another Tamil film titled Vellai Neram, directed by Siddharth Babu. In spite of getting offers in many films, Abhishek says he is choosy when it comes to selecting the script. “I would like to act in the film if the role is very interesting and has a lot of scope. So far, all my three major projects have been like that. And I am very lucky on that front,” Abhishek begins.

“After Demonte Colony, I got about four to five roles but they were similar to the one I did in the film. So, I waited for about seven to eight months for a good script. Meanwhile, I was doing plays,” he adds. When asked about his upcoming Tamil feature Vellai Neram, he says, “I can’t reveal a lot about the film, but it is an interesting role. I come as school kid, who is in class 12.”

The theatre artiste-turned actor was recently seen in Balaji Mohan’s web series — As I am Suffering From Kadhal — and he is currently working on a short film in Malayalam titled Poppy. Directed by Sudharshan Narayanan, he says, “It is a great project that also has Leela Samson madam (Bharatanatyam exponent) and the daughter of actor Indrajith as part of its cast.”

He feels having a theatre background is a good thing for a film actor, “I won’t say it is a must. Not having it is also fine. But it is always an advantage to have theatre experience.” Other than his acting career, Abhishek also works as a hospital clown to entertain children who are undergoing treatment and he does corporate shows as well. Abhishek, a polyglot, who knows Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi and English, says, “I want to be a ‘pan-Indian’ actor. I would want to act in all three industries and be know for it.”
