Fish'ing for the right script
Filmmaker Mani Seiyon, an associate of Arivazhagan of Eeram fame, has managed to rope in director Nalan Kumarasamy for a cameo in a Sibiraj-Aishwarya Rajesh starrer. Mani says, “Like how a dog (Belgian Shepherd) played an important role in Sibiraj’s Naaigal Jaakirathai, this film will have a fish playing a crucial character. Nalan plays a veterinary doctor. I approached him with the script and he was impressed — that he wanted to be a part of this film, which is a fantasy comedy. I wanted to give the audience something fresh and I hope they will enjoy this.”
But why a fish of all animals, we ask him, and Mani laughs, “Fishes have always fascinated me. When I am free, I spend my time by observing them. They make wonderful pets, much like dogs. They can identify people and have high observation power. For instance, before I decided that we begin the film, I bought this fish that I have cast in the film. I kept talking to it and when I eventually took the camera and began shooting, it faced the camera and eventually things fell in place.”
Mani tells us that this film would be a milestone in both Sibi’s and Aishwarya’s careers. “Sibi plays an IT professional and Aishwarya is playing a city-based homemaker and it’s an urban role unlike what she played previously. This also has elements catering to family audience and children. This film to Sibi, will be like what Poovizhi Vaasalile and En Bommukutty Ammavuku were to his father,” he concludes.
