Maanik, yet another adult content comedy, hit the theatres recently after a prolonged delay. Director Martin, a finalist in the Naalaya Iyakkunar series, says that the story was inspired by incidents from his own life. While Ma Pa Ka Anand and Suza Kumar play the lead roles, the makers managed to get 160 screens.
Says Martin, “I am a Viscom graduate and wanted to join one of the TV news channels, but I could not. So, I tried my hand at short films and sent it to Naalaya Iyakkunar reality show where I went up to the final. Watching my short films, Sundar C sir encouraged me to go ahead with the only aim of making people laugh even if it’s short of logic. I just followed his advice and finally my movie Maanik is out. My intention was to make audiences laugh which I noticed when we went for theatre rounds. The fantasy elements have gone well with youth. Ma Ka Pa Anand is a one take actor. This would give him the necessary break.”
