Lakshmi Priyaa wants to do sport-based movies
Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli of Sutta Kadhai fame is excited about Kalam, a supernatural thriller, which she’s currently working on. The actress tells DC, “The movie has a surprise element, which will make the audience hooked to the screen. The script demanded that we shoot in a specific type of house — after a lot of research work, we zeroed in on a place in Chetpet. Kalam will be a horror film with a difference. My role is an important one in the film.” While she remains tight-lipped about her role in Kalam, she says she thoroughly enjoyed working with a bunch of newcomers.
“The whole team has worked hard for the story and didn’t even take Sundays off. In fact, we worked long schedules without any break. Debutante Robert S Raj is the director — Nasser, Shrinivasan of Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, Amzath Khan Madhusudhan Rao and Pooja are also a part of the cast,” she says. Interestingly, Lakshmi Priyaa says she chooses her characters based on the weightage of her roles and not based on whether she’s the lead or not. “I am not bothered about the length of a role as long as it has significance in the script. Also I’d like to do more experimental roles that brings out the actress in me; unlike the typical heroine roles though,” she smiles.
However, the Kallapadam actress quickly adds how she wants to be a part of sport-based movies. Prod her more, she says, “I play cricket myself and I’d be happy if somebody approaches me with a script on the lines of the SRK-starrer Chak De! India. People are aware that women also play cricket, but the game needs more financial support. Technically we are sound though not as aggressive as men,” she signs off. Currently, Lakshmi Priyaa is awaiting the release of Raaghav Ranganathan’s Ticket, besides a couple of untitled flicks.
