Music directors donning the grease paint is the recent trend in Tamil cinema. While GV Prakash, and Vijay Antony have already come in front of the camera, Hiphop Aadhi and Anirudh are yet to make their debut. But Sathya of Engeyum Eppodhum fame begs to differ! We hear that a few filmmakers including some from Tollywood have lured him into acting after his recent makeover — what was his response?
“Yes, I have been offered lead and character roles by two directors, but I can’t divulge their names. For me, the focus is fully on music. I have learnt Carnatic music and have worked with the likes of Gangai Amaren sir and AR Rahman on keyboard. My father wanted to achieve something in the music field, and I am striving my best towards that goal,” says Sathya whose tenth milestone album Velainnu Vandhutta Vellakkaran hit the stands and is garnering good reviews.
Quiz him about kutthu and fast numbers which occupy centre stage in K’town now, and he replies, “Melodies remain forever, and are liked by all age groups. Kutthu songs are just seasonal and are adored by youngsters,” he opines.
Now, his nine-year-old daughter Vaimithra has also entered the music scene. She has sung a song in Aari-starrer Unnodu Ka. With his film like Engeyum... being dubbed in Telugu as Journey, and the songs getting popular there, the composer says that a few producers have approached him now for their films.
Sathya is presently composing for half a dozen films, such as Jet Lee, Asurakulam, and Parthiepan’s next as well.
